Put the chat widget and Book Now buttons on your dealership website from Settings → Website: copy the chat widget install code, pick popup or embedded booking, copy each button's tracked booking link, and send your web developer one read-only instructions link.
Two things go on your dealership website: the chat widget (AutoBook Agent's chat bubble) and booking buttons (Book Now links, the homepage banner, vehicle-page buttons). Both are set up on Settings → Website, per dealership.
The top of the page is the chat widget itself: Launcher and greeting, Widget appearance and Where your widget answers. Below it is the install guide for your web developer, in this order: Share with your provider, Booking display mode, then one section per place on your site: Global navigation, Homepage, Inventory pages, and Chat widget install code. Text, email and calls are separate channels and are not installed on your website.
Everything here is per dealership
The install settings (display mode, which buttons are shown, the booking links, the install code) belong to the dealership you have selected. If you manage more than one store, switch dealerships and set each one up separately. Changing the install guide needs the branding permission (administrators by default); others see it read-only.
Adding the chat widget to your website
1
Copy the install code
Go to Settings → Website and scroll to Chat widget install code. Under Embed code, press Copy. It is one line: <script src="https://www.auto-book.ca/widget/chatbot.js" data-dealer-id="…" data-location-id="…" data-license-key="…"></script>.
2
Paste it before the closing </body> tag
Put it on every page where the chat bubble should appear, usually the whole site, so the global footer template is easiest. Or send your web developer the instructions link (below).
3
Check where your widget answers
Higher up the same page, Where your widget answers is an allowlist. With no websites listed, the widget answers anywhere its code is placed. Once you list a site, it answers only on listed sites, so add every domain that uses it (each subdomain needs its own entry), using Add domain.
4
Done
The chat bubble appears in the bottom-right corner. Its words and look are set at the top of the same page.
Always copy the code from this page
The install code carries this store's licence key, which is how the widget knows which dealership it belongs to. In a group, that is the difference between a lead landing at the right store and the wrong one. An older snippet without data-license-key still works, but replace it with the current one. If the section says the dealership has no licence yet, reload the page once; if it still doesn't appear, contact AutoBook support.
Sending the install instructions to your web developer
1
Copy the Integration page URL
In Share with your provider, at the top of the install guide on Settings → Website, press Copy URL beside the Integration page URL.
2
Preview it (optional)
Press Preview public page to see exactly what your developer sees: every button you left visible, with its description, an example picture, and the right link or embed code, plus the chat widget install code.
3
Send the link
Your developer opens it with no login and follows the steps. The page is read-only: they can copy links and see whether each booking page shows your header, but cannot change anything. Send it only to people you trust with your install details.
The instructions page follows your switches
The public page shows only the buttons you left visible and your chosen display mode. Change a switch or the display mode, press Save, and the developer's page updates. If they say a button is missing, check that its switch is on and saved.
Adding Book Now buttons to your website
The booking buttons are grouped by where they go on your site:
- Global navigation: Menu button — Book now and Menu button — Request more info (links in your main menu, on every page).
- Homepage: Hero section — Book now, Hero section — Request more info, and the CTA banner (four buttons: Book a Test Drive, Book a Showroom Visit, Schedule Service, Get in Touch).
- Inventory pages: Vehicle listing page and Vehicle detail page (Book a Test Drive and Request Information on a specific car).
Each button has a switch that decides whether your web developer sees it. All start on except the two Request more info buttons; turn those on if you also want lead-capture buttons. Under each button is its Booking link with a Copy button and a note on what it does (full booking flow, a set appointment type, or a lead-only inquiry form). Switches collect in the save bar at the bottom: set everything, then press Save once.
Use the right link for each button
Each link is tracked separately, so reporting can tell a homepage booking from a menu or vehicle-page booking. Reusing one link everywhere skews your numbers.
Choosing popup or embedded booking
In Booking display mode on Settings → Website, turn on Booking inside your site, then pick a Display mode. With it off, every booking link opens the AutoBook booking page directly.
| Display mode | What your customer sees | Best for |
|---|
Modal (popup) | Buttons on your site open booking in a popup. The customer never leaves your website. | Most dealers: quickest to add to an existing site. |
Embedded (iframe) | Your developer builds a page for each booking entry point (for example /book-now) with the booking flow inside it. | Sites that want booking on its own page. |
Embed codes only appear in Embedded mode
The ready-to-paste iframe embed codes show under each button only when Booking inside your site is on and set to Embedded (iframe). In Modal (popup) mode each button shows its booking link, which your developer loads in the popup. The chat widget install code is there either way.
Showing or hiding your header on the booking page
Each website booking link starts with your dealer header hidden, so booking blends into your site. To show it, turn off that link's Hide header/branding switch under its booking link on Settings → Website, then Save. Your developer's instructions page shows the setting but cannot change it. Two cases always hide the header and use the compact in-frame layout, whatever the switch says: the iframe embed codes, and any booking link opened with &embedded=true (common inside a popup). The same switch for your main booking page and your own custom links is in Tracked booking page links at the bottom of Settings → Booking.
Is the chat widget the same as the booking buttons?
No. The chat widget is one <script> line from Chat widget install code. The booking buttons use separate tracked booking links or iframe embed codes. Install them independently.
My developer says a button isn't on the instructions page.
Its switch is probably off. Find it under Global navigation, Homepage or Inventory pages on Settings → Website, turn it on, and press Save. The public page only shows visible, saved buttons.
The chat bubble shows on my site but doesn't answer.
Check Where your widget answers on Settings → Website. If any websites are listed, your site's domain must be one of them (each subdomain separately). Also make sure the install code on your site is the current one from Chat widget install code.
Why don't I see iframe embed codes?
They appear only when Booking inside your site is on and set to Embedded (iframe). In Modal (popup) mode you get booking links instead, which is what a popup uses.
Can my developer change my settings from the shared link?
No. The Integration page is read-only. You change everything, including each link's Hide header/branding switch, on Settings → Website.
I run more than one store. Do I set this up once?
No. Select each dealership in the switcher and set it up on its own. Each dealership has its own install code, links, instructions page and visible buttons.
